Jory Kinjo, Bass/Vocals
Born: July 15/1979, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I started playing the bass when I was about 14 because my older brother had already picked up the guitar and we wanted to play together. I joined a band in school and went from there. I got into jazz and played a lot of upright bass, when my upright broke - I got into the electric again-and it's been my main thing since. My old bass teacher got me into a lot of old funk, soul, blues and jazz. So I listened to Tower of Power, P-Funk, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Medeski, Martin & Wood. The bass players I admire and idolize include Jaco Pastorious, Rocco Prestia, Charles Mingus, Stanley Clark and Dave Holland.
My musical influences differ greatly from anyone else in the band, but I think thats why we are able to create good ideas together. Everyone offers something unique and truly individual to the music. More.ca is the kind of project that is uncharted waters for me, and a different mix than anything else I've played. I think that as a bassist - I have a lot to offer the band, and coming into the project with no guidelines - helps us all create the sound that is More.ca
